Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His being was mostly untarnished, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was essentially to tend to his flock of sheep.
Their gentle baas and the rustling of the wind through the single tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day in day, watching over his wards imbued in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.
Yet, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

One afternoon he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is tough to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
